Restrictions that apply to Canadian domain names

On this page you'll be able to find out if you have to meet certain conditions to be able to register a .ca domain name and if special restrions aply to Canadian domain name registrations.

The "first come ? first served" rule applies to all registrations in Canada. This means that, if you're the first one to request the registration of a certain Canadian domain name (and you meet all conditions set forward), then you'll be the one that will get the domain name and be able to hold on to it as long as you renew it's registration in time.

.ca

You must be a legal Canadian resident, Canadian citizen, or a company which has the legal right to do business in Canada. A registered trade mark in Canada is also accepted, but only of the domain name resembles the trade mark.
After you register your domain, you will receive an email from CIRA (the .ca-registry) with your CIRA login and temporary password. You must log into the CIRA site within 7 days to complete the registration of your domain.
During this phase, you will read their terms and agreements and attest that you meet their requirements. Failure to complete this registration during this 7-day period results in the deletion of the domain. CIRA reserves the right request proof of eligibility at any time, and can delete domains if registrants do not meet their terms. CIRA's Registrant Agreement and Canadian Presence Requirements: http://www.cira.ca/en/cat_Registration.html (see "CANADIAN PRESENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRANTS" for full details on the restrictions).
